I learned a lot of things when reading “Regine’s Book.” The main things I learned was to make the best out of what you have, set your goals high, and to not take life for granted. To begin, I realized how Regine dealt with her cancer by turning it into something positive. For example, she didn’t sit around and feel sorry for herself, instead she made her blog. She informed people how they can contribute to helping people with cancer and got people to make donations. That shows if she can turn cancer into something positive, you can basically make anything positive. Next, when Regine got cancer, she focused on setting goals for herself and actually doing them. Her three main goals was to paint, go to a kiss concert, and make it to her 18th birthday, all three she accomplished. As she said in her blog, “I feel like I’ve experienced a lot so far, and that’s better than being old and not having gotten anything out of your existence. Imagine looking back on your life and thinking, what have I actually accomplished? That must be an awful feeling” (Stokke, 189).
Finally, I learned not to take life for granted. “Most people don’t realize how good their lives really are. When we’re healthy, when we’re doing well, we waste out energy on feelings of dissatisfaction. I wonder why” (Stokke, 112). I totally agree with that. Some people spend their nights worrying if they will even be able to wake up for just another day, while some people sit at home not thinking twice about it, complaining about their lives. That shows me that people need to focus on all the good things that happen and not the negative. Overall the themes I learned from this book was to be more positive about things, set high goals for myself, and pay attention to things that matter to me.
