The book, Regine’s Book by Regine Stokke, was a blog about a teenage girl and her experience and feelings about her life threatening disease. When Regine was 17 years old, her mom gave her the news that completely changed her life. “I had just come home from school and didn’t have a care in the world. Then Mom walked in, and right away I realized something was wrong” (Stokke, 14). Regine Stokke was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Many people were impacted by this news, especially her mother, who wrote in Regine’s blog, “In the blink of an eye we went from being blissfully unaware to being devastated by desperation, pain, and a sense of injustice” (Stokke, 16). Regine then began chemotherapy to see if that could get rid of the cancer cells in her bone marrow. It didn’t work. The doctors then decided that they should give her a bone marrow transplant. She was put on a waiting list. She waited for months to get the transplant, when finally her time came. The transplant was successful for a little while, but when she went in for her three month checkup she got the tragic news, once again, that she had relapsed. The doctors didn’t know what to do. They decided to put her on chemo again, hopefully expanding her life so she can reach her 18th birthday, one of her main goals. All she could do was wait and see what happens. Throughout the book, Regine gives you her insight about cancer. It was a very intense book because you just wanted her to be cancer free. You truly cheered for her until the end.
